Virginia S. and her husband moved from California to Colorado Springs to be close to their children and seven grandchildren. Married 44 years, the family raised their children in California, “and one by one they moved to the Springs, so we followed suit,” says Virginia.

They found Nor’wood offered so many amenities, and was so convenient to shopping and Cottonwood Creek Park, that after renting in another part of Nor’wood they decided to buy a home in Newport Heights. “Our children all live nearby and my son and his family live near Cottonwood Creek Park. We have grandkids ages 19,17,13 and two 5 year-olds, and all of them are looking forward to the new recreation center,” says Virginia. “The whole park is so great and offers so many different things to do. The recreation center will be nothing but a boost to the area.”

Lloyd and Donna feel the same way. Their children are Darcy, age 16, who attends Doherty High School, and Kyle, age 14, who just completed 8th grade at the new Jenkins Middle School, and will join Darcy at Doherty next year. “My children are very excited about the new recreation center and it will be so close.” Their Newport Heights home has some terrific, unobstructed, views of the park and the Front Range.

Formerly from London, Ontario, Canada, Lloyd, a US citizen, found Colorado Springs irresistible when he came to visit his brother on a vacation. “He called and said he loved this place and wanted to move here,” said Donna. “We have been here four years and still love it.”

Wayne S. feels Newport Heights is very centrally located and likes the fact that he is near his relatives. “We lived in another area for a year-and-a-half and found Newport Heights,” says Wayne. “We especially like walking in Cottonwood Creek Park.”

A Colorado Springs native, Janet J. graduated from Palmer High School and likes Nor’wood for its conveniences. “Our neighbors are friendly. When we are out walking they will stop and chat,” says Janet. “Our oldest son lives in Nor’wood’s Sundown and I told them if they stay in the area that grandma will pick-up Jordan to help out.”

Being a native, Janet surely appreciates the mountain views, and when she chose her home in Newport Heights they were high on her priority. “We are on top of the hill with awesome views of the mountains.” Janet says she never grows tired of her view.
